It was my first time staying at Ryogoku View Hotel, and I requested a bunk bed room for two people for a 7-night stay. The room was small but clean and well-ventilated since it had a balcony. The small size of the room wasn't an issue for us, but for persons over 6ft, it may feel quite cramped. The beds had stiff mattresses, which is great for your back, and a single pillow. I'm not sure if you can request more pillows. The bathroom was also small, with the toilet seat right in front of the door. It's a bit tight but again, not too much of an issue. Toiletries were available and the liquid bath soap, shampoo and conditioner was good enough that we didn't feel the need to purchase something different. The shower and bath was lovely since the water was heated at a consistent temperature. Overall, pretty good room and bath! The location of the hotel was the deciding factor when I booked it because it is right in front of Ryogoku station (JR line). All you need to do is cross a little street and walk less than a minute to get to the entrance to the front desk. It's also surrounded by convenience stores (A 7-11 and a NewDays at the station exit, and a Family Mart a little down the road) and has a great selection of restaurants nearby. The staff are wonderful at the hotel, and are so accommodating! We were allowed to store our luggage prior to check-in at 3PM, and even after the 11AM check-out. You just have to let them know what time you'll be around to pick up the luggage. Quick note-- Ryogoku station is on the JR Sobu line, which is a local line which means that it stops at every station on the line. To my knowledge, there are no other lines that stops at this station. To get there from Narita, we took the Keisei Narita Skyaccess line from Narita Airport Terminal 2/3 station to Asakusabashi station , and transferred to the JR Sobu line to Ryogoku Station. This all took about an hour.

Great location - a 2 min walk to the train station which is why I picked this hotel. The train noise wasn't bothersome at all. Lots of food places around (highly recommend the seafood place!), McDonalds is just across the street and there is a 24 hr cafe on the ground floor. The area under the railway is lined with eating places. There are also pubs. There is a chemist and Kombinis at your fingertips. You are also away from the hustle and bustle of busy areas but not too quiet or boring. Best thing is it also a 4 min walk to the Ryogoku River Centre where you can catch a waterbus to Odaiba (and skip the trains for once!). Toiletries, towels, etc were adequate and changed daily, but I wish they didn't have to constantly change the sliders (slippers). I keep having to tear open its plastic bag every day but it is probably just me! Bed and pillows were super comfy. Hotel is old and has seen better days but still a quality accommodation.

Very near the train station with lots of restos and food joints, convenience stores and groceries. It's a quiet environment very near the sumo arena and near parks and the Sumida river so you can enjoy a nice peaceful walks daily. Our room was spacious for Japanese hotel standards. It's an old hotel so expect old fixtures but facilities are clean. Some reviews say that it's noisy because it's near the train station but it's not bothersome at all. Staff are very friendly and communicate well. Special thanks to Mr Saito for helping us check in easily. Towels and slippers are replaced daily and soaps and toiletries are refilled regularly. Very good hotel! Very recommended.

The hotel has a fantastic location for exploratory trips in Tokyo — very close to the Ryogoku station. This also means shops and cafés nearby. The are is somewhat busy, but it didn't disturb us much. There is little space in the room, but the facilities are decent. We were very happy to have a single room for all us three. The room had a tea set (kettle, cups, tea bags), fridge and desk, tiny bath tub and toiletries. The personal was very friendly. The hotel is a bit old-fashioned, but offers great value for money from our perspective.

The best thing about this hotel is the staff. They assisted me with a number of things, including shipping a box and route planning to the airport. The hotel is clean overall, and daily room cleaning is offered. I also liked the location of the hotel, near the river and away from the chaos of central Tokyo. The hotel itself is looking a little dated and the size of my room was really quite small, with an odd bunk bed/sofa design. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and possibly a hotel that I would use again.
